DAY 2 Tain to Tongue

Day 2 started out under partly sunny skies with a distinct headwind.  We would find out later on that the worst was yet to come. .
Early in the morning I spied this old couple trying to cross the street...I think I've seen them before somewhere.

We stopped at an old church and found this 9th century stone in the graveyard.

Just a view of a firth(bay) along the way.
After a visit to Shin Falls to watch salmon jumping the falls,

Falls of Shinn...we actually saw a few salmon trying to jump the falls

just some local color!  Yes, that's rain gear!

After a nice lunch in a bistro in Lairg, we began a trek on a very rugged and lonely one lane road. The wind blew harder with intermittent squalls all the way to Tongue.  All in all it would be 60 plus miles...into the wind.

Yep, that's your sign...and it says stay off the logs...they could roll down and ruin your day...makes a dull blog more fun to read!

Pretty rugged, unspoiled, sparsely populated

Highland Coo...they were on both sides of the ...fence?  Leo is trying to figure out if they are friendly or not...

We are happy to have this day behind us.  The wind really takes a toll.  Tongue is a very small village on the top of the Scottish north coast...latitude...about 58 degrees...the same as Juneau or Moscow....
